Fungal Infections
The common names for fungal infections that we are all familiar with are as follows:
- Athletes Foot
- Ringworm
- Jock Itch
- Fungal nail (nail rot)
and there are several other conditions with obscure names.
The scientific names for the above conditions and others are:
Tinea pedis (Athletes Foot and Moccasin Foot)
Tinea corporis (Ringworm)
Tinea cruris (Jock Itch)
Tinea unguium also Onychomycosis (Fungal nail)
Tinea capitis (Scalp and hair follicles)
Tinea faciei (Face)
Tinea manuum (Hand)
Yeasts are a subtype of fungi and some of these can give rise to similar infections, which include:
Candida (Fungal nail, Athletes Foot)
Malassezia (Dandruff)
